Tummy Tuck Scars What You Should Know

Scars from tummy tuck surgery never altogether disappear but most clothing and in a lot of cases a swimsuit will hide the resulting scars. It could take up to a year for the scars to lighten in color and flatten out this is normal and to be expected. The operation leaves a swollen and painful abdomen for the first couple of weeks but this can be alleviated by taking pain killers. Unless you have tough abdomen you will need two to four weeks before you can get back to work and do anything strenuous.

Tummy tuck scars will remain visible if you are worried about tummy tuck scars, be sure to consult an experienced surgeon. Applying a topical steroid cream for a few days following surgery will significantly reduce the effects from scarring, and if you follow this treatment up for about six weeks after your operation  your scars will fade faster and become much less noticeable.

Other women, who may consider undergoing a tummy tuck procedure, are often those who have undergone a caesarian section whilst giving birth, appendectomy or who have scars on their lower abdomen. The severity of the scars can depend on how much skin was removed during the procedure, how well your body heals, how well your body scars, the skill of the own surgeon, and what technique was worked. Any surgical procedure that struggles to avoid these scars will always compromise the issue of the surgery in terms of tightening, flattening, and overall abdominal beauty.

Scars go through different phases during the healing process which the visibility of the scar changes from more to less. The scars are permanent, but surgeons purposely make incisions that will leave a scar below the bikini line so that they can be concealed.

You must keep in mind that a tummy tuck will leave behind permanent scars which in some cases can be quite long, from one hip to the other. Expect your scars to be the most visible around 9-12 months after the operation until they start to fade. All tummy tucks will leave a scar of some kind this is inevitable with any kind of surgery, but the mini tummy tuck generally leaves only a small scar above the pubis, whereas the full tummy tuck can leave significantly larger u-shaped or w-shaped scars as well as scarring above the belly button.

There will be scars but these should fade away as time goes by but the scar is usually below the bikini line. With all the surgical incisions that are being done, one will normally worry about the scars being left behind – especially in the case of a tummy tuck since it is performed to better you waistline and tighten your tummy. Most cosmetic surgeons will have a photo album of post-surgical scars and how they healed to give some indication of how the scars will heal.

You should also be aware that these scars will probably never really disappear although surgeons will often ensure that the scars are easily hidden under a bathing suit. If you eventually need to, you could go for a plastic surgery procedure to remove the scars from your tummy tuck.
