Tummy Tuck Scar Facts

Defined Tag:

Scars are one of the major drawbacks of a tummy tuck operation.
The extent of tummy tuck scars depends on the extent of the surgery that is performed.
Tummy tuck scars are much less extensive with a partial or lower tummy tuck than they are for a full tummy tuck.

The scars can be hidden by swimming suits most of the time. These scars fade over a period of months, but some patients' scars will remain visible. While scars never disappear completely, tummy tuck scars are placed in areas that will subsequently be covered by clothes, bathing suits, etc.  The scar is low and easily concealed by the bikini.

You should get back to feeling yourself after a few or months. It helps to be in good physical shape before you operation as this will help to speed the recovery process.

Most people return to work after about two weeks while others take up to four weeks. People who exercise generally heal better and faster.
You should be prepared to expect it to take nine months to a year for tummy tuck scars to flatten out and lighten in color. Exercise is a good way to reduce swelling as well as lessening the chance of a blood clot and toning muscles. However vigorous exercise should be avoided until such time it is comfortable. Tummy tuck scars will worsen before they improve but this is normal.

Tummy tuck scars will not disappear altogether but will not show under most clothing even bathing suits. You will be asked to wear a compressive garment for up to two weeks  after the surgery.
